Program
adoptions
We work for the good
of girls and boys
There are situations that limit the children we temporarily foster to return to their family of origin. In these cases, adoption becomes the way to guarantee that they grow up in a loving, protective and caring family environment. To achieve this, our efforts are focused on strengthening adoptive families that love, respect, protect and accompany them for the rest of their lives based on the recognition of their history, characteristics and needs.
Learn more about the adoption program:
In order for a person or family to adopt in Colombia, they must be approved by an ICBF adoption committee or an IAPAand must have the following elements:
It is based on the recognition of behaviors in the social and family environment, framed in a system of values and a legal framework.
It is established through psychosocial, bonding and mental health capacity to provide a nurturing environment for a child.
It is based on the physical health of the adoptive parents, which must correspond to an acceptable situation that does not impede the proper exercise of their parental role.
It is determined when the individual, couple, social, family, cultural and economic conditions for adoption are met.
The adoption process can be advanced through the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF)In compliance with Article 62 of Law 1098 of 2006, it can also be done through private entities authorized by it, called: institutions authorized to develop the adoption program or IAPAS.
The Chiquitines Foundation, is part of this block of IAPAS, which advance the adoption process, according to the Technical Administrative Guidelines of the Adoption Program established by the ICBF, and the Colombian and international legislation in general.
Based on this, we built a model of care for adoptive families, which include the steps of the Guidelines, and activities within the good practices, that favor the process of preparation, evaluation and selection of suitable families for children declared adoptable, so that they become optimal means, guarantors of rights, and enhancers of children's integral development.
The adoption program of the Chiquitines Foundation offers two types of adoptions:
As a Colombian or foreign family residing in ColombiaThe adoption process begins with the reading of the Technical Administrative Guidelines of the Adoption Program, version 4. Once you have read this document, you can contact us to schedule your participation in the free Informative Legal Talk, or to schedule a virtual appointment in which we can clarify your concerns.
As a foreign or Colombian family residing outside the country: the process of preparation and evaluation for adoption must be carried out in your country of residence through the Central Adoption Authority or Authorized Bodies as applicable. Once the Central Authority grants you the suitability or permission to adopt, you can request that your process be sent to Colombia to advance the international adoption, where it will be endorsed and subsequently assigned.
It is important to point out that the process is carried out in this way, because both countries must agree to the adoption and comply with the precepts of the Hague Convention, in order to grant the respective entry permits for the child or group of siblings, and subsequently their nationality.
At the Chiquitines Foundation, the adoption process has several steps and activities that guide the family to reflect on their motivation for adoption and the necessary conditions they must have to care for a child or adolescent.
